River States Players of the Week - August 15-18

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio - The River States Conference is pleased to announce the first Player of the Week honorees for the 2024-2025 school year.

The three awards this week, all in the sport of women's volleyball, represent games played from the first allowable date of competition, August 15, to August 18.

Volleyball Players of the Week

Attacker of the Week
Mya Grigsby, IU Kokomo | Fr. - Outside Hitter - Greenfield, Indiana
Freshman Mya Grigsby impressed in a big way at the IWU Invitational, leading the team in kills and aces while playing a key role in wins over #1 Indiana Wesleyan and #6 Midland. She recorded 48 kills, 43 digs, and 11 service aces.

Setter of the Week
Reece Shirley, IU East | Sr. - Setter - Michigan City, Indiana
Reece averaged 6.47 assists and 2.2 kills per set. She also had three service aces to help the Red Wolves start the season off 3-1

Defender of the Week
Ellie Garland, IU Kokomo | Sr. - Defensive Specialist - Fort Wayne, Indiana
In her first collegiate matches as a Libero, senior DS Ellie Garland was stellar defensively for the Cougars, anchoring the back row for an IUK squad that went 3-1 with upsets of #1 Indiana Wesleyan and #6 Midland. She totaled 73 digs for an average of 5.21 per set, recording a both a match and career high 36 digs in the win over Midland.
