SIVIS, Ill. - The Indiana University East women's golf team finished the opening round of the NAIA National Championships as the Red Wolves had a team score of 360 at TPC Deere Run on Tuesday, May 14.

"It was a tough day for us out there today," IU East coach Billy Mullin said. "We got off to a tough start and never really recovered."

The Red Wolves are currently 29th out of 30 squads.

"TPC Deere Run is a challenging course, but we are a better team than this showing today," Mullin said. "I thought Liv Sanders played well today, but unfortunately lost her round late. We will look to play better tomorrow and move up the leaderboard."

Sanders led the Red Wolves with an 85 as she is tied for 100th.

"We aren't quite where we want to be," Sanders said. "Everyone battled against the wind and colder conditions."

"My ball striking was good and finally after a long season, my putts were dropping for me," Sanders continued. "I just had one hole ruin my round but that's golf for you. Hopefully tomorrow we will try and jump up a few spots on the leaderboard."

The other scores for IU East were Jalyn Bruns 90 (T125th), Katie Craig 92, (T136th), Lainey Jackson 93, (T142nd) and Brooklynn Cromwell 95, (T146th).

The University of British Columbia leads the way with a team score of 305, while Kate Castle of Milligan University and Abby Donovan of Kansas Wesleyan University are the top individuals at 74.
