Beaver finishes inside top-30 at NAIA Men's Golf National Championship

DALTON, Ga. -- WVU Tech's Bryson Beaver and Rio Grande (Ohio) both showed improvement in the second round of the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship on Wednesday (May 22) in Dalton, Ga. at the Dalton Country Club.

Bryson Beaver, the RSC Men's Golfer of the Year, shot a 5-over 77 in his opening round, but came out on Wednesday and fired a 2-over 74 to bring his tournament total to a 7-over 151. His second round included two birdies, 12 pars, and four bogeys.

The sophomore finishes inside the top 30 in a tie for 29th as he just narrowly misses the cut by one shot on the individual side.

On the team side of the tournament, Rio Grande showed an eight-shot improvement from their first round. The RedStorm carded a 320 in their opening round and followed with a 24-over 312 in their second round today.

Rio Grande finishes in 28th place in their first trip to the NAIA Men's Golf National Championship after winning their first conference championship in program history in April.

Rodrigo Portilla led the RedStorm on Wednesday with a 4-over 76, while Alfonso Baro added a 6-over 78.

Nicolas Gonzalez and Juan Carlos each fired a 7-over 79 to round out the scoring for the second round, while Whit Byrd shot an 82 on Wednesday.
