Grenadiers set to open 2024 Avista NAIA World Series on Friday night in Lewiston

LEWISTON, Idaho -- After punching their ticket to the 2024 Avista NAIA World Series just seven days ago, IU Southeast (Ind.) is just one day away from making their second appearance in program history in the 67th annual event at Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho.

The 10-team, double-elimination tournament gets underway on Friday, May 24, and concludes on the following Friday, May 31, with the winner bringing home the Red Banner.

The Grenadiers (36-18), who earned the No. 10 seed and won the Upland Bracket, will conclude play on the opening day when they square off with No. 7 seed William Carey (Miss.) at 10:05 p.m. ET. The Crusaders (37-14) were the winners of the Hattiesburg Bracket.

The winner of the IU Southeast-William Carey matchup will meet second-seeded Georgia Gwinnett on May 25 at 9:35 p.m. ET. The Grizzlies, who won the Lawrenceville Bracket, are one of three 50-win teams in the World Series entering with a 51-7 record.

The World Series kicks off at 11:30 a.m. ET on Friday when eighth-seeded Kansas Wesleyan takes on ninth-seeded Arizona Christian. The Coyotes (48-10) were the winners of the Shreveport Bracket, while the Firestorm (36-19) punched their ticket after pulling the upset in the Lewiston Bracket.

The winner of the Kansas Wesleyan-Arizona Christian matchup will face off against top-seeded Southeastern (Fla.) on May 25 at 6:05 p.m. ET. The Fire, who were the winners of the Lincoln Bracket, enter the world series with a 51-6 mark overall.

Friday's second matchup features the No. 4 seed Hope International (Calif.) squaring off with the No. 5 seed Reinhardt (Ga.) at 2:35 p.m. ET. The Royals (40-15) won the Fayette Bracket, while the Eagles (41-16) were the winners of the Waleska Bracket.

The third matchup on Friday pits the No. 3 seed Cumberlands (Ky.) against No. 6 seed Tennessee Wesleyan at 6:05 p.m. ET. The Patriots enter with a 51-6 mark after winning the Williamsburg Bracket, while the Bulldogs were the winners of the Kingsport Bracket and enter with a 40-16 record overall.

Those that suffer defeats on Friday, May 24, will play in elimination games the next morning, needing a victory to continue their championship goals.
