2023-24 RSC Commissioner's Cup Final Standings

2023-24 RSC Commissioner's Cup Final Standings

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio -- For the fourth year in a row and in their final year as a member of the River States Conference, Point Park University claimed the River States Conference Commissioner's All-Sports Cup for the 2023-24 school year. The Pioneers won one of the closest races for the Cup in recent memory, totaling 67 of a possible 70 points to win by two points.

The top five finishers in the final standings are published as customary in the conference. The University of Rio Grande (Ohio) took second place in the Cup race at 65 points, with Indiana University Kokomo following three points behind at 62. Indiana University East rounded out a quartet of schools with 60 or more points at 60, and the top five was rounded out by Shawnee State University's 59 points.

Standings for the RSC Commissioner's All-Sports Cup take into account each school's finish in the RSC championship sports that it sponsors. The standings score the top seven sports from each school. Points are awarded on a scale of 10 with 10 points for first place, nine for second and so on. For sports that have more than 10 schools participating, no points are earned for schools finishing below 10th place. Standings are tabulated based on regular-season finish in the sports that have regular-season standings. For sports that do not have regular-season standings, the championship meet or tournament is used. For sports that have adopted point systems, the rank order of the points were used.

Point Park's Cup victory was powered by their performance in track and field, with the Pioneers winning the River States title in men's indoor, women's indoor, and women's outdoor track, while placing second in men's outdoor track. Point Park was also the regular season champion in men's basketball, and rounded out their scoring seven sports with second place finishes in women's soccer and baseball.

Rio Grande moved up from third place to second, winning three RSC championships in women's basketball (regular season), men's golf, and men's outdoor track and field. The Red Storm also counted runner-up finishes in men's cross country and men's soccer, as well as third place finishes in three other sports.

Each of the remaining top five earned ten points in at least one sport - in total, eight River States members were overall or regular season champions in at least one sport. IU Kokomo finished third in the Cup standings, led by finishing top of the table in volleyball and women's soccer. Fourth place IU East won championships in women's cross country and women's golf, while Shawnee State's fifth place finish was led by a RSC title in men's cross country.

The 2024-25 River States Conference Commissioner's All-Sports Cup will see a new champion with Point Park exiting the conference. It will also see the inclusion of a new sport, as men's volleyball will be contested in the RSC for the first time this spring.
